Labyrinth Of Jareth Masquerade Ball – Best Costumed Photographers

One of the things emphasized most by Lord Shawn Strider, producer of the Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball, is total immersion. Even for press, costumes are required.

The dress code is strictly enforced, even turning away ticket holders (with refunds or vouchers for 2016) if they were not in costume as all publicity and guest materials emphasize this important condition. As the full galleries show (Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball – Early Saturday Night), this results in an enveloping experience in which guests quickly become mesmerized, before becoming fully assimilated!

So, in preparation for publishing Part 2 this evening, this photojournalist wants to give props to two other professional photographers who went far and beyond the “minimum” requirements! 😀

There was fierce competition for the top slot of “Best Costumed Photographer” leaving this single judge and jury to make an executive decision … recognize both for their extraordinary efforts! 😉

Best Costumed Working Photographer:

The tipping point in the competition has to be the fact that Violet Schrage was costumed completely differently, including body paint, for both Friday and Saturday nights. And I never once saw a smudge of paint on her camera … the mark of a truly dedicated professional shooter! 😀 You will see Violet again, in her other costume, coming up in our Friday night coverage starting next week.

Best Costumed Non-Working Photographer:

As a working photographer, we spend so much of our time seeing events through a viewfinder that it’s a rare moment when one of us decides to simply put the camera down for a change and just experience the event like a “regular” guest (as if anything about this event could be referred to as “regular!”). This becomes especially meaningful when you consider what a visual feast the Labyrinth Of Jareth Masquerade Ball is for a photographer. Catherine Madinger, your discipline, on top of your deliciously evil costume, has earned this photographer’s respect. I would be going nuts all night long imagining all the fantastic photos I was missing … like this one! 😉

UPDATE: 8/26/2015-5:00PM PT: In the interest of full disclosure(!) Catherine has asked me to clarify, she runs a photography MeetUp group, as a MODEL, not as a photographer. So, my bad for an assumption there. But the sentiment stands. Were I to go to an LOJ without a camera, I would be a complete wreck by the end of the evening, utterly depressed at having missed so many great, colorful, mystical, FUN photos! 😉
